Supporting women in midlife through online coaching and personal training isn’t just about workouts and calories — it’s about rebuilding energy, confidence, routine and putting yourself first.
Bertha (not her real name—she asked to stay anonymous) came to me after gaining weight over the past 18 months and going up two dress sizes. She’d recently lost a close family member and had been struggling with anxiety and depression. Thankfully, therapy was helping her feel more like herself again, and she was ready to focus on her physical health. As she put it, she just wanted to feel like “me again.”
Midlife, motherhood, and burnout
Bertha is 45, works full-time, has two young children, and is the main breadwinner. She’s at the top of her career—but her energy levels had dipped, and routines felt harder to stick to. She used to have a gym membership but never had time to go. She wanted to fit back into her size 12 jeans but felt overwhelmed by the conflicting weight loss advice online.
Like many women in midlife, she was curious about GLP-1 medications but wanted to prioritise getting fitter and improving her mindset first.
Starting with support, not restriction
During our first emotional chat, I reassured her—she hadn’t “let herself go.” She’d simply been putting everyone else first. We agreed she’d speak to her GP about getting blood tests and exploring HRT. She admitted she often puts off appointments, so I asked her to message me once it was booked—and she did!
Next, we looked at her daily routine. Sleep was a struggle, so we set a simple goal:
- Reduce screen time before bed
- Use a dimmer switch in the bedroom to help wind down
Her evenings were packed with her children’s activities, so three gym sessions a week weren’t realistic. Instead, we planned short 20-minute home workouts using basic equipment. We started with just 4–5 movements per session to ease her back in.
One month later: more energy, more confidence
Bertha now has a routine that works for her. She’s moving more, sleeping better, and finally starting to feel like herself again. That’s the real win.
Why we didn’t start with nutrition
You might wonder why we didn’t begin with calorie tracking or meal plans. The truth is, maintaining a calorie deficit is one of the hardest things to do—especially when you’re already exhausted. To do it well, you need to feel good first. There’s no point adding pressure when your tank is already empty.
This is where so many women go wrong—and why they give up when things go pear-shaped.
It’s not about willpower. It’s about expecting an empty engine to run like it’s got a full tank.
Coaching that meets you where you are
If you’re a woman in midlife feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just not like yourself—know this: you don’t have to start with restriction. You can start with support.
Whether it’s sleep, movement, mindset, or nutrition, I help women build routines that fit their lives—not the other way around.
